What is Windstopper?

A drizzle or a gusty wind is a good enough reason to skip a run, an evening stroll or a picnic. But only if you don't have Windstopper clothing. Because it is specially designed so that your desires for active recreation do not depend on the weather.

Windstopper clothing provides comfort and style where other things fail. It is highly breathable, effectively repels water and completely protects against the wind. This is made possible by the use of a climate membrane

WHAT IS WINDSTOPPER?

In this world, only those who brought something significant to it are remembered. Therefore, the history of any trademark is the success story of its creators, managers who found a unique selling proposition and accurately determined the directions of business promotion.

The invention of the American company W. L. Gore Associates has certainly changed human life for the better. An example of its success was the creation of polytetrafluoroethylene, or PTFE for short. When stretched, this synthetic material is a porous membrane. It is applied to fabric using the lamination method, as a result of which the latter acquires water-, wind- and heat-resistant properties. Such fabric is used to sew clothes for the military, firefighters, athletes and outdoor enthusiasts.

The next invention of the Americans was a lightweight version of the climate membrane, which was called Windstopper. With minimal weight and volume, it reliably protects from wind, rain, cold and snow. The new material has found wide application in the production of softshell tourist clothing.

THE MAIN TASK OF WINDSTOPPER CLOTHING IS TO PROVIDE COMPLETE WINDPROOFNESS WHILE MAINTAINING MAXIMUM BREATHABILITY.

The scope of application of Windstopper clothing is sports and active activities associated with high aerobic loads, including:

  • Running and cycling.
  • Hunting and fishing.
  • Everyday wear.
  • Skiing and snowboarding.
  • Mountaineering and hiking.

Windstopper items produced before 2016 had a bright red octagonal logo.

Things made of Windstopper material

Before the specified year, there were 4 main types of Windstopper materials:

  1. Windstopper Active Shell.

This fabric was used to make extremely light, compact clothing with good thermal regulation and wind protection for high-intensity sports.

    Windstopper Active Shell

  2. Windstopper Soft Shell.

Clothing made from this fabric was intended for moderate-intensity physical activity. The fabric was slightly warmer than Active Shell. Otherwise, the characteristics were the same as Active Shell, that is: it breathes well and protects from the wind

  3. Windstopper Technical Fleece.

This type of material was constructed using a synthetic knitted fabric made of polyester. This membrane was used to make warm clothing for use in cool and windy climates.

  4. Windstopper Insulated Shell.

This membrane had a separate layer of insulation, so it was the warmest. This material was used to make clothes for very cold and windy weather.

BRAND REBRANDING - THE NEW WINDSTOPPER GORE.

In order to break the entrenched consumer perception of the Windstopper brand as an exclusively professional sports brand, the company rebranded the logo and brand name. This is how Gore Windstopper appeared.

Windstopper Gore

The prefix Gore is translated as a gusset. And a gusset is a special lining fabric that is needed not so much for beauty, but for convenience. Any underwear that comes into contact with the body has one. In other words, the new type of membrane fabric was intended to create not only sportswear, but also casual clothing for various situations. Functional and stylish T-shirts, windbreakers, gloves and other items will be a good solution for activities in changeable and unpredictable weather conditions.

There are currently 3 main categories:

  1. Gore Windstopper.
  2. Gore Windstopper Light Rain Resistance.
  3. Gore Windstopper Insulation Protection.

The first one combined the previously existing Active Shell, Soft Shell and Technical Fleece materials.

The second one is a material with reliable protection from wind, light rain or wet snow.

Gore Windstopper Light Rain Resistance

And the third category is the same as the second, but only with a separate layer of insulation.

Windstopper materials are used by various manufacturers of clothing for sports and active recreation. The Ukrainian brand Freever is no exception. The company's designers have developed a collection trousers, jackets and gloves made of this material. Their convenience, quality and practicality have been highly appreciated by Ukrainian buyers.
