And a little later, with the development of tailoring, men and women began to wear "upeland" - outerwear with sleeves that widen downwards in the form of wings and a stand-up collar, and sometimes with button fasteners.

Several centuries will pass, and more than a dozen names of outerwear will change before the authoritative Oxford Dictionary indicates the 18th century as the birth date of the pea coat.
