It is no secret that denim pants look the most advantageous on men's and women's figures compared to other materials. On the other hand, sports pants have long proven that they are capable of more than just comfortable clothing for active recreation, training, and spending time at home in front of the TV. It’s no wonder that modern sweatpants have been one of the most fashionable trends of the last 10 years.
In fact, the first and second have much more in common than it might seem at first glance. And all because the requirements for jeans and sweatpants are in many ways similar - convenience, comfort and freedom of movement. When trying on sweatpants and jeans, we always evaluate what is more appropriate to wear, what accessories to combine with, how we will look from the outside and what others will think about our appearance. If you have often wondered what is better to choose - jeans or sweatpants, then this publication will help put everything in its place.
WHAT DO JEANS AND SPORTS SHIRTS HAVE IN COMMON?
The habit of comfortable and convenient clothing has led many to consider jeans and sweatpants a magic wand that allows you to do whatever you want in them. This is partly true. In addition to the general name - pants (that is, jeans, sweatpants and sporty-style pants - these are all pants of an informal cut), these items of clothing are really very comfortable to use and versatile in application.
Denim was originally conceived as a durable and comfortable work uniform for gold miners. The canvas fabric from which pants and overalls were made withstood various loads well, including the test of frequent washing. Due to their high wear resistance, jeans were suitable then and are still suitable today for many activities, including applied sports. For example, they are as comfortable as sweatpants for playing board games, riding in a minibus and jumping over puddles.
But seriously, denim pants are really suitable for military and multi-sport activities, including aviation, parachute and equestrian sports, sport fishing and orienteering. They are just as comfortable as sweatpants: for driving a car or motorcycle, working in the country, organizing picnics, walking the dog, hiking, playing golf. By the way, for fans of denim pants who don't want to "part" with them even in the gym, sweatpants and shorts in denim style are offered.
In turn, "sports pants" in such situations also "do not lag behind". And where there are all the signs of pure sports, they will give odds to any jeans. This is obvious, by their nature they were created for comfortable active pastime. The world first saw sports pants in the late 30s of the last century, at the Olympic Games in Amsterdam. But they only gained universal recognition in the 80s, when world fashion houses began to include them in their collections. The head of the Chanel house denied their existence in everyday life for a long time, and liked to repeat: "Sports pants are a sign of defeat. If you bought them not for the gym, then you have finally lost control of your life." And in the end, it was Karl Lagerfeld who created the famous overalls and was the first to introduce the fashion for the sporty style.
One of the rules for creating a basic wardrobe is that its basis should be multifunctional and high-quality items, regardless of current fashion trends that do not wear out after the first few washes. Therefore, if you are faced with a choice of what is better - sweatpants or regular jeans, then conduct a simple analysis:
- my personal needs,
- my activity,
- my hobbies.
They contain 70% of the answer to the question. In addition, in order not to miscalculate with the decision, be sure to familiarize yourself with the advantages and disadvantages of jeans and sweatpants - this is another 30% to the right choice.
ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF SPORTS PANTS
Advantages of Sports Pants
Nowadays sports pants are extremely comfortable and do not restrict freedom of movement. Despite the fact that models made of cotton, molleton and flannel are still relevant, new, non-standard materials have recently come to the fore. Sweatpants made of exquisite satin, vintage corduroy or loose airy fabrics are on sale. This wardrobe item is increasingly going beyond the sports style. An example of this are men's and women's slacks - loose-fitting trousers made of thick cotton fabric.
In terms of comfort, sports pants are much more comfortable than jeans: you don't have to worry about whether the button on the waist will fit, or whether it will be tight after a "dense" meal. In addition, they do not restrict movement (even if it is a tight-fitting model) and the zipper never gets stuck. Among other advantages over jeans, we highlight the following:
- No need to torture yourself with choosing successful combinations (only when buying a set of pants + jacket).
- The ability to adjust the figure and select a style for any type of figure.
- Easy care, even if it is a light model of pants.
- Good air exchange.
- Complete freedom.
Disadvantages of sweatpants
If previously loose-fitting knitted pants were in demand only on the street, in the gym and on treadmills, then modern models from leading sports brands allow you to use classic sweatpants in the life of an active business person. A large selection of men's and women's styles (straight, tapered, with or without stripes, with cuffs or elastic, with a knitted waistband or ties, with a low or regular inseam) make it easy to choose a comfortable and versatile item to wear for everyday walks, trips out of town with friends, or informal time spent with colleagues at work or business. However, if you want to look presentable, you wouldn't wear sweatpants to a business meeting - they're not that versatile.
PROS AND CONS OF JEANS
Advantages of jeans
Denim is a timeless classic. If sweatpants are the most comfortable to wear, then jeans are the most practical and versatile, and stretch denim models are very close in comfort to sweatpants. Of course, we do not draw parallels - jeans are not sportswear. The structure of the fabric and the cut do not allow for flexible maneuvers, comfortable running of long distances, or active training. You can go to the gym in jeans, but they are uncomfortable on a sports machine or treadmill, even if it is a stretch model. Denim pants are a great option for every day, for dates, work, walks, long trips and all those life situations when you need to look stylish without compromising your comfort.
No basic wardrobe for men or women can do without them. The range of models for the weaker half is so diverse that you can look feminine, romantic and seductive in them. At the same time, the strong half is not offended either - straight, extremely narrow or very tight, tapered or tight, loose or baggy, with a low, high and medium rise, classic cotton, stretch. Among other advantages over sweatpants, we will highlight the following:
- Very durable, wear-resistant, and resist deformation well.
- They age beautifully - the more you wear them, the cooler they look.
- You can choose a model that will highlight the advantages of your figure.
- With jeans, you have a wider choice of everyday, business and festive looks.
- Modern denim styles have a richer selection of shoes.
- They are not demanding in care and do not require frequent washing.
Disadvantages of jeans
Denim is a very dense and rigid material based on cotton. For sewing trousers, denim is not used in its pure form, but with the addition of lycra or elastane fibers. This composition makes the fabric more elastic and comfortable to wear, but does not provide complete freedom of movement. Another significant disadvantage is that with all the variety of styles, jeans do not suit everyone: it is difficult for overweight people to choose a model according to size. If you want to wear a tight or form-fitting option, but your legs are not very straight or your buttocks are flat, your thighs are too full or too thin - Skinny or Slim FIT styles will highlight all this.
While jeans are versatile and often made of thicker materials than sweatpants, they will always make you feel cooler. And when denim gets wet, it loses 95% of its insulating properties, making you feel much colder. In this regard, sweatpants are much warmer and provide better wind protection.
Doctors warn lovers of overly tight styles and low-waisted models - the desire to look fashionable and bold in any weather and circumstances can later result in poor health and infertility. Skinny jeans can cause circulatory problems, and wearing them regularly can lead to diseases of the genitourinary system and worsen the functions of the reproductive system. And because of their addiction to low-waisted pants, many girls suffer from kidney and appendage diseases acquired as a result of regular cooling.
SO WHAT IS BETTER TO CHOOSE: SPORTS PANTS OR JEANS?
For those who plan to play sports, have a lot of active rest, it is better to buy sports pants at the first stage. We recommend them to everyone who prefers freedom of movement and increased comfort. Depending on the season and types of training, these can be thin, thick or medium-density knitwear. Preference should be given to models of universal colors and shades (black, gray, beige) - they are great for any type of physical activity and everyday wear.
We said "at the first stage" because the second stage should definitely be buying a good pair of classic jeans. You must admit, it is hard to imagine a modern person's wardrobe without them. They are suitable for both walks with friends and business meetings with the right choice of image and accessories, of course. A well-fitted pair of jeans made of beautiful denim are as comfortable (if not more comfortable) than more casual trousers, but look much better.
Here is the latest fashion trend from Greg Lauren. At the last spring-summer collection, the master of unconventional clothing style presented a model of trousers that combines classic casual sweatpants and light denim. Perhaps this is the compromise that many are looking for?
