How to store t-shirts?
Each of us stores T-shirts in a way that is convenient for us. As a rule, the choice of method is influenced by a number of factors, the main one of which is the availability of free space. But many people save T-shirts in one way or another, only because they are used to it and do not know other options. And there are actually several of them. We will talk about this today. It is quite possible that you will want to adopt some of them (or maybe all at once).
Let's assume an ideal case when there are a lot of clothes and there is also plenty of space in the closet or dressing room. It remains to decide how to properly store T-shirts? But before we talk about the options, let's say a few words about why this is important.
- Firstly, this will allow the clothes to retain their shape and presentable appearance longer, which will extend their service life.
- Secondly, an organized storage system automatically eliminates the second main problem after "I have nothing to wear", namely - "I can't find my T-shirt".
- And thirdly, no matter how big the closet is, there are many other things and products besides T-shirts that also need to be given their own place in it.
You must admit that these arguments are enough to implement a convenient and correct system for storing T-shirts, which in addition to visual harmony will allow:
- quickly find the desired model;
- arrange things compactly and beautifully;
- use space to the maximum;
- avoid chaos and easily maintain order.
WAYS TO STORAGE T-SHIRTS
- There are three ways to store t-shirts:
- Hanging them on hangers is the easiest way.
- Storing them on shelves is the most popular way.
- Storing them in boxes is the most compact way.
- There are also two ways to store T-shirts:
- Folding is when each item is first folded in a certain sequence (we will look at how to do this below), and then all the T-shirts are placed on a shelf (or in a box) in a stack, one on top of the other.
- Rolling is when each T-shirt is rolled into a compact, cylinder-like shape and all items are placed vertically or horizontally in an organizer or drawer, either tightly next to each other or in designated compartments.
Before we look at each of the three methods in detail, let's look at the peculiarities of storing printed T-shirts.
HOW TO PROPERLY STORE PRINTED T-SHIRTS?
T-shirts come in plain, colored, and printed colors. For the first two, choosing a storage option is not a problem - you can hang them on hangers, fold them on shelves, or store them rolled up in organizers.
But storing products with a print has its own nuances. Pay attention to the T-shirt pattern, meaning the type of embossing.
- If it is a sublimation print, that is, when the paint particles literally fuse with the upper layers of the material, forming a pattern that is resistant to washing and mechanical impacts, which is not felt tactilely, then there is no need to worry - you can put it on a shelf, the bends will not affect the quality of the print.
- And if the design on the clothes is made using the thermal transfer method (such a print is easy to feel), then such a T-shirt should be washed carefully and preferably stored on a hanger or, in extreme cases, folded without sharp creases.
Now let's look at all three methods of storing T-shirts in more detail, with their advantages and disadvantages.
METHOD #1 - HANGING T-SHIRTS
This method involves hanging on hangers (aka hangers), as well as using special hangers for things, including hanger-stands. Hangers vary in shape, color, design and size. They come with covers and without covers. By type of material: plastic, acrylic, wood, flocked, satin (i.e. soft) and metal with silicone coating.
For T-shirts, the best option would be wooden or plastic hangers Aleana with a wide shoulder or satin hangers. These do not deform T-shirts, which cannot be said about thin metal hangers. For this reason, they are rarely used for T-shirts, but mainly for trousers, thick and heavy clothes.
- Advantages of hanging:
- Hanging T-shirts on hangers allows them to maintain a neat appearance after ironing or steaming, i.e. without creases or folds.
- It is convenient to choose the desired model, while all the others will remain untouched and will hang on their hangers.
- It is very convenient to arrange T-shirts by color scheme, height and season, which makes it much easier to choose the right clothes.
- You get a neat and aesthetically pleasing appearance in the closet.
- Disadvantages of hanging:
- A large number of hangers that you have to constantly buy and which are still not enough.
- Requires quite a lot of space on the rod.
METHOD #2 - STORING T-SHIRTS ON SHELVES IN A CLOSET
This method involves folding clothes horizontally. Each T-shirt can be folded in one, two or more folds - it all depends on the available space on the shelf and the features of the T-shirt.
- Pros of the method:
- Storing the same number of T-shirts this way requires significantly less space than hanging them on hangers.
- Rarely used T-shirts can be folded to the back of the shelf.
- You get a neat and aesthetically pleasing appearance in the closet.
- Cons:
- With this type of storage, the T-shirts will wrinkle. Synthetic sports models are not afraid of this, but cotton ones will have to be ironed or steamed every time before wearing.
- It is not convenient to use: it is impossible to get the right T-shirt without affecting the others.
- With a deep shelf, getting what's stored in the back is quite a hassle.
- The storage process involves carefully folding the T-shirt - you'll have to learn and follow this rule every time.
- You need to constantly maintain a neat appearance on the shelves.
METHOD #3 - STORING T-SHIRTS IN DRAWERS
This method involves using pull-out drawers of a furniture set, separate special drawers, textile folding boxes and organizers for storing things. They can be located in a chest of drawers, in a closet, in a wardrobe or in a dressing room.
Also very often resort to the help of plastic files with buttons, vacuum bags or vacuum covers. Any of the options involves storing T-shirts folded or rolled up. The latter method has become the most widespread due to the fact that the T-shirt is laid vertically and takes up little space.
- Pros:
- High level of compactness, which is significantly higher than method #1 and #2.
- Provides better inspection and access to the contents. It is very convenient to choose what you need, while all the other T-shirts remain in place.
- Drawers are great for vertical storage.
- Sorting by color, season, and other parameters.
- Cons:
- When stored this way, clothes get wrinkled, which means they need to be ironed or steamed.
- If there are no drawers, you need to additionally buy organizers, textile or plastic boxes and put them on the shelf in the closet.
WAYS TO FOLD T-SHIRTS
The methods below allow you to quickly fold a T-shirt with short and long sleeves. Such schemes can be easily mastered not only by experienced housewives, but also by children.
Traditional method.
Like in the store.
How to fold a T-shirt neatly and beautifully in one movement?
For many, the most acceptable way to learn how to fold a T-shirt is a video. A very popular video is about folding items in one movement of the hands, without a single unnecessary movement.
It is worth noting that specially designed devices can be found on sale - "boards for laying out T-shirts". They allow you to speed up the process and achieve the most neat result.
THE METHOD OF FOLDING T-SHIRTS USING THE KONMARI SYSTEM
Recently, the Marie Kondo method of organizing home life (the Konmari method) has become extremely popular. The famous consultant described the basis of her method in six rules, one of which is: throw out everything that does not bring joy and find a place for what remains. The method is so effective that it is taught to children in preschool institutions.
Take advantage of Marie Kondo's unique method of folding t-shirts, thanks to which clothes can be stored both vertically and horizontally. The principle is very simple.
- Lay the T-shirt out on a horizontal surface face down.
- Fold the sides of the product inward one by one.
- Fold the sleeves back again, but in the other direction, so that they don’t wrinkle.
- You should end up with a long, narrow strip that needs to be rolled into a roll starting from the bottom.
The resulting bundles can be laid horizontally in rows or inserted vertically into the cells of the organizer. In this position, there are practically no traces of folding on the things.
Conclusion
If constantly maintaining order in the closet is not your thing or you just don’t want to waste your time on it, then choose option #1. By providing enough space on the rod and buying the required number of hangers, you will hang up your T-shirts by color, season, length and you won’t have to bother with folding or rolling them up and ironing them frequently.
If you like to tidy up, you don't mind ironing, and folding T-shirts is fun, then your option #2 is storing T-shirts on shelves in the closet and/or option #3 is storing them in drawers. In addition, both methods are ideal for a modest-sized wardrobe.
- But in practice, as a rule, all three options are used, sorting clothes according to the principle:
- more significant (expensive) or seasonally relevant T-shirts - on hangers;
Use our tips and your closet and shelves will look as neat as possible.
